What is happiness to you? What’s capable of making you happy? Happiness, to me, is limitless. It could come from anything, anywhere, anytime, anyone.

It’s simple, really.

I could easily feel joyful when I use a brand new soap, or by seeing fresh flowers, or when my favorite brands launch new collections at the stores, or whenever I have the chance to eat lunch at home with my Mom, or just simply getting simple messages from the loved ones. I once got very happy that I experienced eating the most delicious bakpao in Tomohon, Manado, while gazing at the swimming koi fish in the aquarium. And happiness could come from much simpler things such as when I’m able to wear flip flops during work because I can’t stand being in heels for hours and have to walk in them every time.

Happiness is that simple.

A few of my closest people probably notice that I’m very obsessed with finding happiness and the idea of happiness in deeper understanding. I always want to be a happy person. I learned from the simplest things we go through daily. If we add them up everyday, it will form the kind of savings account of joy, and we can spend them in the days when we need them. I usually note them down in my little journal book, dot points of the things that make me happy.

For example, :
1. My first time being and shooting in University of Indonesia’s campus library.
2. I tried eating at University of Indonesia’s canteen.
3. I had a very great and fun video team today
4. On my way home, the traffic wasn’t so bad and the air after the rain’s nice
5. Got home, and Mom checked on me see if I was feeling alright
6. Sabila, my assistant, helped me finish up my works this evening
7. Got to have dinner at home
8. My boyfriend called me, just a minute after I BBM him
9. I had a package sent to me from Puri (@idekuhandmade)
10. I’m laying in my bed, writing this and blogging this – so I can share it with so many people.

Simple, huh? Imagine me writing 10 points every day for a year, I would have 3650 happiness in every year! Imagine if you have 50 points, 100 points or even 200 points of happiness per day. I’m sure it would result you something unexpectedly amazing.

Create your own happiness that comes within yourself and share it with others around you.

IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS

Can’t believe it’s been two years since I started my photography diary in Jakarta. The same two years since the first time I befriended the two genius behind Cotton Ink label. The first time I, Carline and Ria “met” on the cyber world and I was just simply an admiring customer of their clothing line who bought one of their leggings. Not long after my first purchase, Carline emailed me back and offered to collaborate for their lookbook.

Their first lookbook (with Nina Zatulini as the model) was done near my house. I remember really well back then Carline and Ria still did their own make up on the models, and no assistant was there to offer a helping hand, everything was taken care of by themselves alone. The shoot was fun. It was our first lookbook ever so we got very excited. It was my first lookbook ever in my career, which was printed and given away at Brightspot Market event.

Not long after that, Cotton Ink started to give me challenges, such as indoor photo shoot, product photo shoot (by that time I haven’t done any photo shoot for products at all, and I used lighting so little my whole life working as a photographer) and also outdoor photo shoot at places like Ciwidey. That was around the time when I asked Marlene to join us as Cotton Ink’s makeup artist. There are plenty of funny, memorable, random things we’ve gone through together the four of us. From going to Stasiun Kota at dusk, a silly fight with a gangster in Cikampek, that very proud moment when Cotton Ink won one of the nomination at CLEO Fashion Awards in 2010 and many more stupidly happy things that had made us laugh so much we can’t breathe, and others that had made us down too sometimes.

Every time I clean up my room and found Cotton Ink’s lookbooks slipped in many corners, those I took from Brightpot event, and every time I look at my previous works and compare them to the photographs I take now, it feels funny. Time flies indeed, and it’s been almost two years. Me, Ria, Carline and Marlene, we’re not only job partners anymore, our strong bonding takes us from the client and the photographer, or the client and the makeup artist, but we’re practically sisters to each other now. Marlene and I are Libras, Ria and Carline are Geminis, if I superstitiously think of it, no wonder we click so much as our characters are alike. I can’t wait for next year, I heard Cotton ink is preparing a “surprise” for their beloved customers. Love you so much girls!

My days have been ultra exciting recently, and those days had taught me so much along the way. I’m at the moment participating in the making of Andien’s video clip “Gemilang” with several other friends, Candi Soeleman, Kay Tadjoedin & Audy Erel. The clip making is a bit different than the usual this time, because we do the scenes separately and continuously due to clashing schedules of several Indonesian famous people such as Mira Lesmana & Christine Hakim.

The locations for the clip change too as we shoot. From Bibliotheque, University of Indonesia’s library to Cibubur. It’s a total of 6 day shooting if added up, only we divided the time for each scenes. During the shoot with Christine Hakim I couldn’t come sadly, but the next day’s shooting with Mira Lesmana I tagged along. Done with the scene with Mira Lesmana, Andien herself interviewed her to be put in the teaser clip.

“Gemilang,” as Mira spoke, “to be ‘gemilang’ (scintillating/sparkle), we must find and be beside, dream partners”, a statement that got us all (crew including Andien) muted and thinking, it wasn’t really the kind of comment we expected. “People may cheer you up and support you through hard times, because it’s simply impossible to be cheery and positive all the time”, Mira added as she finished up the interview.

It was honestly a touching strike-on statement that shut us all. Got me teary and definitely realizing in a second, that everyone TRULY needs dream partners. People who are able to believe in dreams, power and all the gifts in everyone else including themselves, partners who will push you up when we’re trembling down the steps, partners whose hands are always available for us to hold and chase our dreams together side by side.

A post dedicated to Rizqi Ranadireksa, my biggest dream partner. And to all amazing friends, who always believe in the existence of dreams and who always excuse the fear to chase them.

My Sony: DCR-PJ5

These last two weeks I’ve been very inspired by Rihanna’s most recent video clip “We Found Love”. In that video there’s one scene where Rihanna is singing in a room with a projector shot to the walls.

And this week I’m giving my Sony Handycam a try, the newest product DCR-PJ5E series, which happens to have a high-contrast projector feature. My overloading curiosity towards this camera can’t hold back so on Monday I brought it along with me when working at the office and right away did a little fun experimenting with my model during the day.

Some of the video stock I took during that day at the office and some other I took on my trip to Bali. I took several close-up of my model, Sasa, then I turned on the projector feature while shooting it to the wall inside the studio. After that I shot the result from the projector again with my SLR camera, and the result is playful and fun. I watch the video sometimes when alone in my room just for fun, shooting it to parts of my room wall with prints on them.

And because I haven’t found any Handycam with such expert feature before, it got me and the team at the studio overexcited to do more experimenting. From proper photo shoots to get spectacular results to fun snaps. Aside from the projector feature, what I like about this gadget is the handy size, it fits the hand and easy to use. I sense more upcoming experimental works since I don’t need a real massive projector for certain works anymore now knowing that it wouldn’t at all be as easy as carrying DCR-PJ5E in my camera bag. Every time I'm on interviews or just having chit chats with my friends, there are plenty of questions regarding how very, really, inspired I am, of Lady Gaga. Some closed friends find it weird, some others also mock Gaga's 'looniness' sometimes, there are other who thought Lady Gaga is so not me.

Guess this is the time to reveal my love and affections of her. The first time I hear one of her songs was in 2009. At first I found it weird, but it started to be interesting. And then I accidentally saw her music videos. "This woman is beyond crazy" was my first thought, no doubt. I then stumbled upon an article about her and in that article it said how back in school Gaga was one of the girls who got bullied by the kids around her, her ex boyfriend himself told her once that she will never succeed on her own, Gaga also is not the type of celebrity who spends nights out partying and getting drunk, she'd rather stay in, be in the studio, write songs and do a lot of brainstorming for her stage concepts and performances.

She really is one of a kind.

That reminds me how Ryan Tedder once write that "No one works harder than Lady Gaga", adding to that her personal trainer also added that Gaga never complained about the amount of hours she need to exercise to shape her body up and also stay in shape.

Behind those crazy costumes and acts on public, lies a great lady to look up to. That's an image of Lady Gaga in my opinion. She is, without doubt, a creative, talented person who doesn't go down easily by people's mockeries, she works for the sake of her passion, to appreciate her self, and I think her hard work deserves some thumbs up and to become other's motivation, myself included. Behind her craziness, I really think that not everybody could pull it off the way Gaga does, that goes to the amount of guts and and self expressions. Lady Gaga is one of a successful people, and that's the reason why I'm very inspired by her.

Iyan & Fey Wedding Day

This is possibly the sweetest wedding of the year after Ria & Fedi's. When Iyan planned about how he wanted a simple wedding at his backyard, what I had in my mind was a sweet and intimate wedding in a small venue.

After the Holy Matrimony, me and the other team drove straight to Iyan's house and it was pretty surprising how the venue turned out. The decorations were super cute and adding to that the sun ray was beautiful it lighten up everything to the next level. Everything was beautiful I had to ask Iyan and Fey to let me post the pictures on my blog right away, I thought more people should see how unique and amazing the wedding was like. The couple really do have good taste in things it's utterly reflected in their wedding party, on every bits of the decoration details for instance.

It's a wonderful thing to be surrounded by creativity and having such talented friends are what I cherish my whole journey.

One of them is the rising star Andre Wiredja. I've known Andre for about 2 years, and due to time crunch we haven't seen each other these past few months, we're both got busy with work and whatnots. One afternoon I chat him up and it was such a coincidence that Andre was on a secret project and started babbling out about it and asked me and Abenk to model for him on it. So we got on with it with minimun preparation and time. I grabbed some of Cotton Ink's collections from their lookbook's photo shoot earlier that day and some of mine from home, with whatever properties Abenk's office has such as Mayer Hawthorne's heart shaped vinyl, and that which also where the shoot took place.

Abenk and I weren't expecting a shoot that afternoon. We just took a leap of faith in Andre, didn't mind asked to goof around while he clicked the shutter. Unlike any other photographers, Andre is a typical expressive person toward his models. He seemed very excited on the project, Abenk and I in particular aren't so good at posing in front of cameras but Andre has the ability to make us feel comfortable and so we got confident really quick. The shoot turned super fun. Two weeks ago an email came in and amazing fun photos were attached on it.

Me and Abenk are really happy and satisfied with the results, they're beyond our expectation. There's not a single photo I dislike. Thank you Andre, I always adore your magical works.

I think I just had the most memorable birthday ever - though I spent most of my time working during the day. My boyfriend surprised me in the morning, showing up with a bucket of lovely flowers, and following it after, the two items that I definitely will need and use: Kate Spade laptop case and Tory Burch wallet. I've arranged a birthday dinner with my closest friends, I've been meaning to spend time with them I've missed just hanging around with my girls as well. Each and every wishes from literally everybody including the people I don't know, was the most touching thing on my birthday. They meant so much to me.

And this week I've got myself more tiny surprises which were several interviews and articles about me.

The first one is my interview with Ms. Chantal for Chatty Chant session - during the interview I spoke my personal opinion about photography and my perspective and what independence means to me in person. The second article is about my meeting with Indonesian young author Alanda Kariza. And the third article is an imaginative dialogues Rukii Naraya wrote. He basically interviewed me through email, and he re-wrote it in a Q & A (Question and Answer) template as if we were sitting together somewhere and chattering in person. A pretty unique interview.

BEST GIFT EVER: SONY NEX-C3

As I've story-told before, I was given the chance to collaborate with SONY, endorsed for their new member of Sony NEX Alpha Family which is NEX-C3 last month. The photos I captured using the camera borrowed were finally printed and displayed during the product launching several days ago. During the media gathering I also got to speak a little testimony about NEX-C3 camera, and I'll talk a bit about it here.

NEX-C3 camera is specially designed more for female, given the stylish feature and colour which I find very interesting and girly. One of the features is the 'soft skin' option for picture taking, which enhances skin's softness in the pictures without having to Photoshop them again. Some other features also include Toy Camera, Pop and Retro effects. And SONY 's playful colors have been a plus for me, fits everyone that's looking for colorful, outdoor and panorama shots. Other than that, this camera is pretty handy, the size is fitting, not too heavy and the lens is changeable. Perfect for a mini traveler like me.

What's most exciting is that SONY happened to give away two extra lens for me: 50mm F1.4 and Fisheye Converter. I can say it's one of the best gifts I've ever received. Feels like I'm given a hundred more chance to take photographs and also a reminder that I can make good works with anything and anywhere without limitations of tools and space. Thanking SONY endlessly.

Last month, CLARA magazine gave me the opportunity to photograph several members of Hadji Kalla's third generation, a businessman from Makassar - The third generation is possibly well known by the children and cousins of Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President several years ago. The unique thing is, there were four people writing the published interview articles in the magazine, while usually there's only one person writing it. Here are several quotes in the articles.

My New Toy

I'm back in Jakarta after a holiday to China and a short job trip to Bali. One of the best things that happened this year by far is traveling with my whole family during Lebaran. On the other side, not having Lebaran in Jakarta is kind of sad, it was like stepping out of a tradition. After I got back from Beijing, several emails came in and exciting projects awaited. One of them is to cooperate with PT. SONY Indonesia. I was given an opportunity to try out Sony's newest camera, which is NEX-C3. They landed me the camera after the meeting, and the camera having pink as one of the colour options really made it even more exciting for me as it's my favorite colour.

I brought the camera with me to Bali, giving it a go as I drowned in busyness of work and turns out the camera made great pictures with great colours. At the end of this month, SONY will launch their newest products which are NEX-C3 and Alpha DLSR plus a media gathering, at I will be showing several shots of mine using the NEX-C3 they borrowed me. Wait for my next update!

Sunday is the day I always look forward to every week. And this Sunday, was a different, special one for me. I woke up and spent the first several minutes of the day flicking through Twitter timeline, and spontaneously opened a video link by Edward Suhadi. As I watched the video it told the story of how after Edward sparing his time with TEDxJAKARTA, he's utterly inspired to participate in documenting Indonesia Mengajar and their young activists (Pengajar Muda), teaching in South Halmahera. The 5 minutes video turns out to be the best form of inspiration to me lately; about how Edward earned back his creativity and passion through a new experience, and again being reminded that it's those small things in life that shape up the best stories.

In the afternoon, I participated in another talk show called Freelancer Expo, my University lecturer invited me in as one of the speakers. Though the crowd was not too big, the audience was quite active in asking questions and so far the talk show went well. Perhaps also because I wasn't as nervous as how I usually am. To complete the excitement, my boyfriend, Abenk, made time to come to the talk show. He's never seen me giving speaks before and he was surprised that I have the ability to talk in front of many people. It's possibly a surprise too because all this time, whenever he's performing on stage I always told him I can't be as interactive and confident as he is. But it seemed like this afternoon I enjoyed talking to the audience and sharing my experiences with them.

Done with the talk show, we went to Taman Suropati. My boyfriend took me to see a free guitar class "Kelas Gitar Gratis" that SOULVIBE's new guitarist, Iga Massardi, invented. We've never been there all our lives living in Jakarta. The extraordinary ambience soothed me after a long day. And not only Iga, his students and a guitar lesson, but also other groups learning violin, trumpet, even drawing lesson. I sat there on a picnic mattress while soaking in all the joy it brought, observing my surrounding, realising how in the middle of the hectic Jakarta, there's still a place this peaceful natural. Taman Suropati is so clean and well taken care of, unlike any other trashy Taman (garden). Abenk and me were thinking of how we haven't been spending enough time doing outdoor activities.

Edward and Iga's rewarding actions really moved and inspired me to do more for my surroundings.

Now, I understand.

Lately I've been feeling so uninspired.

People had been telling me it's the pressure from working too much and come to think of it, I think I have indeed been overworking myself. I didn't make enough time for myself to spoil myself with the things I usually like to do such as TV series marathon, easy readings and sketching. The last thing I did on my spare time was rearranging my room and redecorating some corners of it. And I think I need to do something more than that.

  Sometimes, being rather stuck with no ideas could be a good thing for me as it gives my mind time to rest a little, and gives me time to do things I'd like to do such as blogging, chilling with friends taking photos with pocket camera, finding new things to do.  

Also, as predicted, August so far has been a great opportunity to rest for a bit. Ramadhan month isn't as hectic as other months usually, and I just can't wait for another holiday at the end of this month. I planned a trip to visit three countries in ten days, and if everything works just fine I'm sure it'll be great. Friends sometimes question me and asked how come I get the chance to travel a lot. Actually, one of my 2011 resolutions is to travel at least once every two-three months. And it's a great coincidence that traveling takes place as a part of my job too. I get to work, travel to new places and relax all together.

WHAT BELONGS TO YOU COMES TO YOU

I've been a bit out of reach these past few months, got tied up with several commercial projects, catalog, another number of editorials on magazines and some domestic trips. August is possibly the month I've been looking forward to lately, because Ramadhan month is the perfect opportunity to get my rest up, giving myself a break from all the job hectics and do more for the fasting month.

Another thing that's been keeping me off the radar, actually, is someone that has been camping on my mind and heart for the past year.

Since three months ago, our relationship has been through the down and gone, "on and off" is the term people used to describe us. It was hard at the beginning, but then I decided to drown myself more into the busyness of jobs and daily activities that it's countable by fingers how many times we'd met in the exact past three months.

Me and this someone had a couple of good moments to talk us through too, examine what went wrong, what's blocking our way and why didn't we make it in the end. Until on June 29th 2011, he sent me an email with John Legend's song This Time attached on it and left me a note saying, "Best represents of how I feel, please give me another chance, dear."

Everything happened so fast as time flew by and after passing all the tears, the fear and gloominess and the most importantly, all the prayers and hopes, I'm feeling rather grateful because I'm finally able to feel LOVED and to love by the one person that I always have been and am in love with. He's got everything I want and I need. And we have faith in reaching what could make us better ourself so I believe it's the best path God had lead me to and all that happened, had reasons behind them that gave me and others positivities. And I too believe, it's not the end yet.

BIYAN: THE ORIENT REVISITED, BACKSTAGE PHOTOS

I had an offer to shoot backstage for BIYAN's Annual Show in Mulia Hotel on June 9th - it was for CLARA Magazine. Time sure flies. Feels like not too long ago since I finished Uni and started my freelancing career and Marie Claire Indonesia asked me to do backstage shoot for BIYAN's show, and turns out it was a year ago. That was my first experience shooting backstage and I was beyond nervous as a beginner.

Over a year had passed and I'm back at the Ballroom that was turned to a Backstage - make up table and changing room placed exactly the same as last time I almost believe it's all to give me deja vu - and for the same designer as well.

Meeting friends backstage always makes my job a lot more exciting than it already is, including those who did the backstage videos; Reuben Tourino, Davy Linggar, Hakim Satriyo and Shadtoto Prasetio.

Though I was struggling with fever during the shoot, I still went home wearing a big smile on my face that spells 'adoration' after spending time with Biyan's mesmerising masterpieces that are always beyond classy and beautiful.

Carline and Ria arrived in Bali real early in the morning. After Bali Safari stroll in the afternoon, we went to check out Gunung Payung Beach that some said is a peaceful and quiet place to be. We were a bit lost since our driver didn't know where it is too, until we reached Pura Gunung Payung.

We can see the sea from above where we were standing, but we need to go down approximately 400 meters to catch the beach. Well the going down was nice, the views were breathtaking sure, it was peachy and we're all excited. Then when we reached the beach, quite a shocker that there really was no one there, there were some caves too and the sands were crystals.

I recommend this place, it's actually a really cool place - One of the must visit beaches in the book Lonely Planet - And don't forget to pack for picnics and bring along good reads.

It's been about two years I've gone to Bali back and forth, and this was my chance to grab a holiday there without having to work. I arrived a day earlier than everyone else with Amanda. Once we landed we went to visit Antonio Blanco Museum right away, one of my favourite place in Ubud. I love the collections of painting there and the tropical birds to have a play around with.

Ubud's checked, back to Seminyak, off to Legian for a beach walk, waiting for sunset. We chilled at La Plancha, chattering accompanied by mini cocktails with colours that matched our mood. Something funny happened, when in the middle of us hanging out, there were four ladies in front of our seat, reading ELLE Indonesia June 2011 edition that featured my photographs of Rianti Cathwright. Turned out one of them is my blog reader, found it out when she came over and said hi, it was exciting.

For Shinta, if you're reading this posting - I'm very glad to have met you in a very unexpected place.

June has been really great to me. BIYAN Fashion Show, another Bali trip for work and holiday, adding to that a trip to Solo for an interview of Hungarian Pesindhén, did a commercial shoot for the billboard and last but not least, I was invited by Kompas.com to do a talk show (big thanks Fauzan for the invitation and support!)

It is a bit of a new experience for me, though I've been invited by a number of University in Jakarta and Bandung to do such talk shows. One fun fact out of the rest if I must pick, was the opportunity to share with the enthusiastic audience. About three days after the talk show that took place in Gandaria City (Klinik Fotografi Kompas), Kompas featured an article of the event and displayed my picture, which was the most exciting thing about it. It was a huge surprise as I was out of town when the feature was published, even my family was told by someone else about the article on Kompas Newspaper.

It was indeed a great time being able to share with a lot of people who are so optimistic about photography in their own visions. I'll also share some photography tips later on, so stay tuned.

Struggling breast cancer for about 12 years is not an easy duty, and Mom's big sister finally hit her limit. She passed away after fighting so hard, leaving a son, two daughters and a grand child.

You've heard it, no break-ups are easy. My special relationship with a special someone didn't reach the happy ending. Or maybe it's not the time. Who knows. What I do know is that moving on isn't as simple as flipping coins, especially when you thought you've found the keeper. I'm still recovering.

Another family member had to go. My grandmother had been fighting stroke for almost 6 years, she couldn't move at all as she could only lay in bed at all time. She can't talk or move as she can only listen though she was conscious. On the last three weeks of her live, her condition was getting worse, fluid covered her lungs, and she went away, along with our humming prayers that were always by her side, giving a way.

It was around 09:30 in the morning when I was awaken by Mom's sobbing, right after a phone call about my little brother who's been on an bicycle accident. He's conscious, but his face was badly injured and he lost four teeth. He couldn't open his mouth and he's got several stitches on his cheek. All my life I've never seen Mom cries this much, holding Andy (my brother) so tight as he's still lying there in bed. He's still hospitalised up until now. I hope he gets better any minute now.

And later that night after I got back from the hospital to see my brother, I witnessed a very horrible accident on the road. A man got hit by a car, to death. There were blood all over the place. And I don't usually have any guts to see those kinds of accident before my own eyes, but I guess it was my first exception, and it was beyond terrible.

Those are recent events that got my heart broken so far this year. Never I thought 2011 could get this rough. But at the same time, I'm getting priceless lessons and they've made me more thankful for all the things and the people I have in my life, much more than before. Let us never lose hope for a better tomorrow.
